From wasteland to green metropolis, the vibrant 30-square-kilometre Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City (Eco-City) is a high profile bilateral cooperation project between the governments of Singapore and China, and a showpiece for Keppel’s master development expertise.

Keppel leads the Singapore consortium for this project and works closely with our Chinese partner to guide the 50-50 joint venture; Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City Investment and Development Co. Ltd. (SSTEC); in its role as master developer of the Eco-City.

The  Eco-City is envisioned to create a harmonious and sustainable community that meets the needs of an urbanising China and is planned for a population of 350,000 residents. Before the project broke ground in 2008, the site comprised mainly salt farms, non-arable land and polluted water-bodies.

Today, the Eco-City is also a bustling community with business parks, neighbourhood centres, libraries, a hospital and schools. The project was also named China’s first National Green Development Demonstration Zone.

Keppel’s diverse capabilities in energy, property, infrastructure and connectivity are brought together in the Eco-City to create a highly liveable, smart and sustainable community.

With more than half of Asia’s population moving into cities and urban centres by 2040, Keppel Urban Solutions was established in 2017 to capture the rising demand for smart, sustainable townships and precincts in the region.

Keppel Urban Solutions harnesses the Group’s diverse capabilities and track record in large-scale urban developments to offer end-to-end solutions from master planning to precinct operations. These include developing and operating horizontal and vertical infrastructure, as well as providing solutions for connectivity, urban logistics and place management.

Working with leading partners such as Envision, ST Engineering and Microsoft, Keppel Urban Solutions will create smart infrastructure eco-systems that tap the power of sensing technology and the Internet of Things (IoT) to equip residents as well as operators of infrastructure and community services.

Keppel Urban Solution’s capabilities will first be applied in Saigon Sports City, a 64-hectare township that Keppel Land is developing in Ho Chi Minh City’s the prime District 2, where there is a growing middle class and increasing demand for high-quality urban spaces.

Saigon Sports City is envisaged to be a bustling hub, combining high-quality urban living with vibrant and healthy lifestyles, which can be a model for other urban developments in Asia. Biophilic design principles will be incorporated into the development, such as natural lighting and ventilation, a linear park, vertical greenery and picturesque water features with natural filtration to create a green and lush environment in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City.
