Keppel Infrastructure Holdings Pte Ltd (KI) celebrated today the official opening of the Keppel Infrastructure @ Changi building, Singapore’s first Green Mark Platinum Positive Energy building under the new and more stringent Green Mark scheme. Keppel Infrastructure @ Changi houses KI’s operations nerve centre, which harnesses advanced digital and machine learning technologies to provide real-time surveillance of KI’s operations across Singapore, around the clock, starting with its district cooling plants.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Guest of Honour, Mr Desmond Lee, Minister for National Development, as well as Mr Loh Chin Hua, CEO of Keppel Corporation and Ms Cindy Lim, CEO of Keppel Infrastructure.

At the event, KI also announced two MOUs with a combined potential value of approximately S$100 million, over the service duration.  Minister Lee witnessed the signing of an MOU between KI and Medtronic Singapore to provide Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS), including district cooling and installation of solar panels and electric vehicle chargers. Earlier, KI also signed an MOU with SATS Ltd. to explore the provision of district cooling solutions at its inflight catering and maintenance facilities in Changi North. Ms Cindy Lim, CEO of Keppel Infrastructure, said, “We are pleased that the Keppel Infrastructure @ Changi building is the first in Singapore to be conferred the Green Mark Platinum Positive Energy building under the new scheme. Through meticulous planning, design and engineering of the retrofitting works, we have modernised a decade-old asset into a positive energy building, demonstrating KI’s ability to integrate energy efficiency technologies and innovation into existing assets and operations, in line with Keppel’s mission to provide solutions for sustainable urbanisation.

“More than just a green building, Keppel Infrastructure @ Changi serves as a mission critical operation nerve centre for four district cooling plants operated by Keppel DHCS across Singapore.  Keppel Infrastructure @ Changi enables us to showcase our Energy-as-a-Service offering and how we are able to harness digital technology, artificial intelligence and IoT for remote operations, predictive maintenance and performance optimisation to enhance the efficiency and reliability of our energy assets and services.”

The Keppel Infrastructure @ Changi building, annexed to Keppel DHCS’ Changi District Cooling Systems Plant, was built in 2013 on a site layout of 1.06 ha. The fast-track retrofitting works commenced at the end of 2021 and were completed in May this year. The works included upgrading of the high-efficiency air conditioning and mechanical ventilation system, as well as installing smart sensors, LED lights, electric vehicles charging infrastructure and vast vertical greenery. Over 4,000 square metres of photovoltaics (PV) were also installed on the rooftop and building façade, which is expected to yield about 600,000 kWh/year of renewable energy, more than double of the building’s consumption. The reduction in carbon emissions is equivalent to the planting of 7,000 trees.

The building is also fitted with water-efficient fittings to reduce potable water usage and is able to harvest rainwater for irrigation. In addition, the internal fit-outs, road kerbs, wheel stoppers and waterproofing system were constructed using sustainable materials and products.

In addition, the building’s vertical greening and biophilic landscaping were co-funded by the National Parks Board under the Skyrise Greenery Incentive Scheme. This adds over 910 square metres of greenery to the building and reduced the urban heat island effect, improving the performance of the indoor environment while enhancing the health and well-being of the building’s occupants. Ms Lim added, “We would like to thank our partners and stakeholders including the Building and Construction Authority and National Parks Board for their invaluable support in making Keppel Infrastructure @ Changi a success. Over time, we plan to extend the nerve centre’s coverage to our other water, waste treatment and energy plants in Singapore, and then to our operations overseas.”

The abovementioned developments are not expected to have any material impact on its earnings per share and net tangible asset per share of Keppel Corporation Limited, the parent company of Keppel Infrastructure, for the current financial year.
