Safety and Health
Safety is one of our core values. We are committed to create an incident-free workplace for all our stakeholders.
Our approach to safety management is guided by the Keppel Group's Safety and Health strategy, and is focused on four aspects across our global operations - having an integrated HSE framework, implementing effective management systems, promoting safety ownership and enhancing partnerships across our operations. The Keppel Group reports on its safety performance in our annual sustainability report.
All employees and third-party suppliers and contractors are expected to abide by the Keppel Corporation HSE Policy which places the highest priority on the health and safety of people and the protection of assets and the environment.
Keppel Corporation established a Board Safety Committee (BSC) in 2006, the first by a publicly-listed company in Singapore, to review and develop safety policies across its multiple business units. The BSC provides strong and visible leadership and takes a hands-on approach in setting strategic directions to ensure consistently high safety standards across the Group.
The Group was conferred 35 WSH Awards in 2016 by the Singapore's WSH Council and Ministry of Manpower (MOM). This is the largest number of awards won by a single organisation in Singapore.
Of the 35 awards, Keppel O&M bagged 32 awards under the Safety and Health Award Recognition for Projects (SHARP) category. Keppel Singmarine was conferred the WSH Innovation Award for developing the Mighty Hammer Arrestor, an innovation which prevents the dislodging of steel hammer heads from handles during use.
We empower and train our stakeholders to ensure that all personnel are kept updated on safety measures and best practices. Over 65,000 personnel have received training at the Keppel Safety Training Centre and Safety Awareness Centres since 2010. The Keppel Safety Training Centre at Keppel Shipyard in Singapore offers a complete range of safety training and certification courses in both trade-specific and broad-based skills for all levels of the workforce.
Keppel continues to support national, industry and client initiatives to raise safety standards and share best practices and new developments. In Singapore, the Group has been a regular sponsor of annual national safety events, such as the WSH Conference, National WSH Campaign and bizSAFE Convention.
In addition to a safe environment, we also aim to protect and promote the health of our workforce. Our workers undergo regular health checks and are to be certified fit before they can take on strenuous work. Exercise programmes, distribution of fruits and healthy lifestyle campaigns are in place across the Keppel Group to encourage employees to live active, balanced lifestyles.
