Agatha demonstrates safety first as a rule onboard while using the winches

A double celebration

Having braved foul weather, seasickness, sore muscles and burnt skin after Part A training, it seemed well-deserved for the Keppel team to sneak in a little decadent celebration during their one-day break on 4 July before the start of Part B training.

They found a better reason to celebrate though, with no less than delicious cakes, candles and a whipped cream fight – none other than the ten-year anniversary of fellow crew mate and colleague Agatha Goh’s long service with Keppel.

Indeed, it was a timely and apt celebration for the Group HR manager, whose aim of representing Keppel on the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race was to mark an important personal and professional milestone – ten years of dedicated service towards the Company.

“I’ve been very fortunate and duly rewarded by Keppel in the last ten years. My bosses were very kind to give me the opportunity to cross over from our subsidiary to Keppel’s headquarters for a wider spectrum of learning and exposure – few companies are able to give you this kind of career growth opportunities.

“I was also given the chance to garner cross-departmental and disciplinary experience taking on a completely new job scope when I switched from the Information Technology department to Human Resource. It has been a very colourful ten years, for my personal growth and development as well as seeing the company evolve during this time,” shared Agatha.

For some, it may seem like an incongruous switch of job scope but for Agatha, it was about constantly challenging oneself to expand one’s horizons, and ultimately to become a master of many trades to better contribute to the Company.

She enthused, “I felt that I had to move out of my comfort zone and to empower myself with greater depth of knowledge about the company works and what comes together to make us a great company.”

It is a little wonder that Agatha has taken up the challenge of sailing on the Clipper Race. Her decision stems from the same spring of motivation – to challenge one’s own limits. A striking example of a Can Do! Keppelite indeed!
