Lending a helping hand Promoting self-reliance and independence. That is the mission of the Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD) for more than 2,000 disabled children and adults that the centre manages. To achieve its aims, the SPD organised its first SPD Charity Show, graced by Speaker of Parliament Mr Abdullah Tarmugi, on 15 July 2007. Its goal was two-pronged – to create greater public awareness of the SPD, and raise funds for its new centre, SPD@Tampines, which will provide rehabilitation services for over 600 children and adults when it opens in March 2008. Keppel O&M supported the SPD’s cause with a cash contribution of $50,000. Mr Tong Chong Heong, Keppel O&M’s Managing Director & COO, shared, “Corporate social responsibility is core to Keppel. We believe in serving and contributing to the communities where we operate. “It is our hope that our contribution will help raise awareness of the SPD and their services in helping people with physical disabilities develop skills and realise their potential.” |
